Kathmandu, October 10, 2026 — Gagan Kumar Thapa has been elected president of the Nepali Congress (NC), securing 6,584 votes in the party’s 15th General Convention.
His rival, Shyam Krishna Khadgi, received 375 votes, while 54 ballots were declared invalid.
Of the 7,317 convention representatives, 7,039 cast their votes in the presidential election.
Vote counting for other office-bearer positions is scheduled to begin Saturday afternoon at the party’s central office in Sanepa, Lalitpur. The counting will begin following a meeting with candidates for vice-president and general secretary scheduled for 1 pm.
