Kathmandu, October 9, 2026 — The investigation into Armed Police Force Additional Inspector General (AIG) Banshiraj Dahal, who came under scrutiny after meeting former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana at a police office, has been completed, and a report has been submitted to the Home Ministry.
AIG Anjanikumar Pokharel, who was appointed as the inquiry officer, submitted the report after completing the investigation. The Home Ministry had suspended Dahal on Asoj 19 and assigned Pokharel to conduct the inquiry.
According to the investigation’s findings, Dahal had links with Inam Sapkota, a middleman reportedly close to Rana. The inquiry committee questioned Dahal, who acknowledged communicating with Sapkota through WhatsApp and mobile phone calls, saying they knew each other and were from the same district, Jhapa.
A senior Home Ministry official told Ratopati that the inquiry confirmed Dahal had also shared information about Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s location with Sapkota through WhatsApp. Kathmandu District Police Range is investigating Sapkota in a money laundering case.
The Police Headquarters provided the inquiry officer with details of communications between Dahal and Sapkota. AIG Pokharel prepared and submitted the report based on those details. The inquiry concluded that Dahal had acted in violation of the Armed Police Force Regulations, 2015.
